Man strangles sister over plantain

A man has been arrested by the police in Kogi State for murdering his elder sister over plantain.

The murdered Ikani Ayebe Adamu

A 36-year-old man, Mohammed Adamu,  has been arrested by the Kogi State Police Command for allegedly strangling his elder sister, Ikani Ayebe Adamu, to death during a quarrel over her refusal to allow him cut a bunch of plantain belonging to their father, reports the Sun Newspaper.

According to the reports, the siblings have been having a fractious relationship for over a year, with Adamu often threatening to kill his sister and they carried the pent up anger till it boiled over, leading to his killing her.

It was gathered that the deceased, who was the first of their parent's nine children, had refused to allow Adamu acces to the plantain, something that got him mad.

One of the victim's children, Onaja Adamu, recounted what led to the murder of his mother by his uncle:

“My uncle, Mohammed Adamu came to our house around 4pm to inquire about the whereabouts of my mother. I told him that my mother went to the farm to harvest cassava stem.

He left and came back around 6:00pm to ask about my mother again. I still told him that my mother had not yet come back. We became suspicious of why he was insistent on knowing the whereabouts of my mother.

So we traced our mother to the farm and saw her dead body around 8:00pm, lying by the side of the road; her wheelbarrow also stood beside her.”

The family promptly raised an alarm and rushed to the Olamaboro Police Station to report the killing of their mother and Adamu was arrested.

During his interrogation, he allegedly confessed to murdering his sister because she stopped him from harvesting a bunch of plantain planted on his father's land.
