Wife beaten to coma by husband for using family savings to invest in scheme

A housewife who used the family's savings to invest in the MMM scheme barely managed to escape death after her husband beat her to coma.

MMM pyramid scheme

Daily Post reports that the woman identified as Mrs. Ogenyi, who resides on Balogun Street, Iyana Ipaja area of the state, was beaten to stupor by her angry husband who just returned from their hometown in Benue State only to discover that his wife had taken all the money the family saved for rainy days and invested in the scheme.

It was gathered that on his return from his journey, the man had discovered that the family saving box was missing from their wardrobe and on inquiry from his son, he was informed that his wife had gone out with it.

A co-tenant of the couple informed that upon her return, the woman was shocked to find that her husband who is said to work as a driver with a commercial transport company, had returned earlier than she had envisaged as he was not expected back until the end of the month.

According to the neighbour, when the husband inquired to know who broke the saving box and the wife could not give him any satisfactory answer, he descended on her and beat her to comatose.

“When the husband threatened to beat the wife if she fails to tell him who broke the box, she accepted breaking the box and investing the money into MMM.

She thought she could get 30 per cent of her income and replace the money before the husband would return,” the neighbour said.

The co-tenant added that the husband explained he had saved the money which was about N86, 000, for their new accommodation but was angered that the woman could gamble with the family savings.

The man was said to have locked the door of their one room apartment to prevent sympathisers from rescuing the helpless woman.

Neighbours eventually had to break down the door before they could rescue the woman.
