25-yr-old sentenced to death by hanging for stealing phones, wristwatches

A 25-year-old man has been sentenced to death by hanging for allegedly stealing phones and wristwatches.

A court sitting in Lagos State has sentenced a 25-year-old man, Rasak Ogedengbe, to death by hanging for allegedly attacking the family of one Mr. Chukwujekwu, in the Ejigbo area of the state, and carting away some of their valuables including money, wrist watches and phones.

According to reports, the victim had gone to report the incident at the Ejigbo Police Station, when he saw Ogedenge in the police van after the suspect had already been arrested by the police. A search of the polythene bag found with him revealed some of the items stolen from the victim.

Even though the convict pleaded not guilty to the crime, the presiding judge, Justice Olabisi Akinlade, said that Ogedengbe was accused of criminal conspiracy and armed robbery under Section 403 and 402 of the criminal code, law of Lagos State 2003, and therefore sentenced him to death.
