'Daddy said he will kill me if I told anyone' - 10-yr-old impregnated by father

A 10-year-old pregnant girl has narrated in a Lagos court how her father sexually defiled her and warned her not to tell anyone.

News Agency of Nigeria [NAN], reports that Abuya was dragged to the court presided by Chief Magistrate B.O. Osunsanmi after the girl's mother reported him to the police as the one responsible for her young daughter's pregnancy.

Abuya, who resides on Idimu Road, Egbeda, Lagos State, according to the police prosecutor, Simeon Imhonwa, is standing trial on a one-count charge of defilement.

Imhonwa had earlier told the court that Abuya was in the habit of having sexual intercourse with the minor at his residence whenever the mother was away and had threatened to kill her if she told anyone about the sexual abuse.

mhonwa said.

Continuing, he added:

“The accused had been defiling the girl before he was apprehended. The victim’s mother reported the case to the police after their daughter narrated her ordeal.”

The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

When the charge was read to Abuya, he pleaded not guilty and Chief Magistrate Osunsanmi granted him bail in the sum of N500,000, ordering that he must produce two sureties in like sum who must be property owners in the state as well as show evidence of tax payment to the state government.

The case was adjourned until February 2, 2018, for a mention.
