a : A child whose inopportune remarks causes embarrassment

b : A person known for shocking remarks or outrageous behaviour

While The Free Dictionary puts the word as:

a: A usually young and successful person who is strikingly unorthodox, innovative, or avant-garde

b: One whose startlingly unconventional behaviour, work, or thought embarrasses or disturbs others.

These descriptions can aptly fit the former Chairman of the House of Representatives on Appropriations, Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin, as he goes about with his one-man war on the leadership of the House whom he has accused of padding the 2016 budget to the tune of N284 billion.

To the ordinary Nigerian, if such a humongous amount had been approved by President Muhammadu Buhari, I dare say that it would have thrown the country back to the doldrums as they would have been frittered away, or as we say it over here, they would have been 'wacked' with reckless abandon.

True to his promise when he appeared on Channels Television, Jibrin had gone round the EFCC, ICPC, DSS, Police, and other relevant anti-graft agencies, dropping off one petition or the other, seriously indicting his principal officers but the stance or body language by those he accused leaves little to the imagination.

Instead of them coming out with their facts as well to debunk the accusations, they have decided to play the persecuted and the victims in the case, with many of them claiming that Jibrin is a sinking and ambitious politician who has fallen from his high pedestal and wants to bring everyone down with him, just like Satan vowed never to suffer alone when he was thrown out of heaven.

In the words of Hon. Mohammed Zakari, the Chairman, House Committee on Basic Education, Jibrin is just a rabble rouser who so overwhelmed by his ambition to drag him into the mess and has exposed an agenda of a revenge mission to drag everybody down the drain with him.

But the begging question here is why there is so much silence by the leadership of the House, the ruling APC to which they are all members, the Presidency, the EFCC, the police and the leadership of the party?

Why are they all treating Hon. Jibrin as a troublemaker who should not be listened to or taken seriously? Why has the anti-graft agency not taken up the matter and commence a full scale investigation?

Is Jibrin just the L'enfant Terrible in this case and as such, not worthy of being given any attention? Is he just trying to get back at Yakubu Dogara and his principal officers because he was sacked from his juicy committee?

Why the deafening silence from all that matters? Or are there plans to sweep the spurious allegations under the carpet? Should Dogara and the others just step aside pending the conclusion of investigations to either prove them innocent or otherwise?

But discerning followers of Nigerian politics believe the idea that they should resign is rather out of place because instead of taking that honourable route, they would fight tooth and nail, come up with counter accusations and all sort of antics to remain in power.

That is the sad truth of Nigerian politics!
