Man gets 4 months imprisonment for causing grievous hurt

The prosecutor said that the convict went to Crystal Lodge, accosted the complainant while he was on duty and beat him up for no cause.

Usim, a resident of Dape village, Abuja, was convicted on a count charge of causing grievous hurt, offence contrary to Section 247 of the Penal Code.

Usim pleaded guilty and begged for leniency.

The Judge, Sadiq Abubakar, however, gave the convict an option of N10, 000 fine; saying that the punishment would serve as a deterrent to others.

The prosecuting counsel, Auhioboh Florence, had told the court that one Jerry Oyame, reported the incident at Utako Police Station on August 15.

Florence said that the convict committed the offence on same day at about 4.30 p.m. at Crystal Lodge, Abuja.

She said that the convict inflicted injuries on Oyame’s mouth and he was rushed to a hospital at Wuse.The prosecutor said that during police investigation, the convict confessed committing the crime.
