Men Get Battered Too

We have been having a very good time in the Lekky’z Lounge and I am sure you are too. And here we are again and I can tell you it is becoming very interesting here. Today, we have a hot and burning issue and that is: do men get battered by their wives, either physically or emotionally?

And to handle that is a visitor in the Lounge, Marcel Martin, MM, for short. He is a psychologist and I am sure he knows what he is talking about.

Here we go…

You see, in the very society we live, it is absolutely a no brainer to hear that a woman would batter her husband, with the belief that men are always in charge. In fact, it will be a thing of shame, derision and mockery to hear that a man is beaten by his wife.

But what of the emotional and psychological battering? Women are quick to jump out of their skin, let people know that their men beat them up but when they are the ones doing it, they expect us to keep quiet and even pretend as if nothing of the sort ever happened.

Some women could be vindictive, predatory and even downright violent but we are meant to keep quiet and just take it like men.

Life inside an abusive relationship is lonely and humiliating. You may feel like you are the only one - you are not. All over the world, good-hearted men, just like you, are struggling to survive in an abusive relationship. Contrary to what the society believes, men are equally abused in marriages. I know this because every single day, more abused men are speaking up.

Often, we tend to think of domestic violence as something that happens to women but domestic violence against men is often underestimated and often hidden, especially by the men themselves.

Domestic violence is not just physical abuse like beating, slapping, hitting, kicking or forced sex; it goes beyond that to include non-physical abuse like threats, constant disparaging remarks or controlling behavior.

Even though women are more likely to be physically abused than men, guys who get abused suffer serious, long-term effects on their mental health and depressive symptoms.

Women, especially those who have more money or hold higher positions than their husbands tend to abuse the man emotionally and psychologically. Some even decide when to have sex with their husbands. But I can say that domestic violence only affects the poor guys.

No woman would dare raise her hands on her husband if she knows that he is the head of the family, and not someone she feeds, house, cloths and takes care of everything in the home.

So my advice to guys in such situations is to go out there and get a job and take control of your homes. You are supposed to be the head and not the tail.
