King Sunny Ade Solicits Government Support For Music Industry

Ace musician, Mr Sunday Adeniyi popularly known as King Sunny Ade, has called on the Nigerian government to foster the growth of the Nigerian music industry by investing in it. He made the call in London on Sunday after performing at the exhibition mounted to showcase Nigeria’s culture and investment potential at the London Olympics. According to him,«Nigerian entertainment industry is economically viable but its potential largely remain untapped. I want to commend the government for this gesture; however, we have yet to feel the impact of the fund,’’ he added.

He urged the government to show more commitment in the fight against piracy via purposeful legislation, stressing that government had a vital role to play in making the music industry economically viable and attractive. »In spite of the many challenges, I am very happy to note that the Nigerian music industry has moved from being regarded as an aberration to a level comparable with any show business in other parts of the world,’’ he added.
