Model gets ripped apart on Twitter for tone deaf Pepsi Ad
Kendall Jenner and Pepsi get a tongue lashing on Twitter over new advert.
Twitter has been roasting Kendall since the new Pepsi ad which she stars in popped up online. In the two minute advert, Kendall Jenner joins a multi-racial crowd of protesters.
The protest is similar to the #BlackLivesMatter movement which started in America in 2013 after the death of Trayvon Martin. In the advert, Kendall Jenner walks with the protesters. Towards the end of the commercial, Jenner steps out of the crowd to give one of the police men a can of Pepsi.
This act ends the tense stand-off between the crowd and the police. This Pepsi advert has been blasted as tone deaf by Twitter users as it makes light of serious issues such as police brutality, racism and oppression.
To make matters worse, Kendall Jenner's cute Pepsi moment with the officers is similar to the imagery of Leshia Evans who was arrested last year after having a standoff with the police at a Black Lives Matter protest.
Twitter didn't spare Kendall Jenner and Pepsi. Here are some of the tweets;
Pepsi had responded to the online backlash.
"This is a global ad that reflects people from different walks of life coming together in a spirit of harmony, and we think that's an important message to convey" a spokesman told Adweek.
Earlier Pepsi explained the concept of the ad. 'The 'Jump In' Pepsi Moments film takes a more progressive approach to truly reflect today's generation and what living for now looks like."
Kendall Jenner has not responded to the criticisms.
