It was a bad day for a suspected armed robber when he fell into the hands of angry villagers  in a border community of Konshisha and Oju local government areas of Benue State, as the villagers descended on him and burnt him to death.

Reports have it that some suspected gunmen, numbering about 20, had stormed the First Bank Branch in Vandeikya local government area of the state armed with dangerous weapons.

In the operations that lasted several hours, the robbers ransacked the bank, carting away huge sums of money and also killed several people in the process.

But as they were trying to escape, the dare devil robbers were confronted by the police in the area and a fierce gun battle ensued and in the process, the robbers' get away vehicle veered off the road, somersaulted several times and landed in the bush.

It was gathered that many of the robbers who had serious bullet wounds managed to escape, one of them was not so lucky as he was apprehended by the villagers and was instantly set ablaze.

An eyewitness narrated the scenario:

"One of the robbers who was trying to escape while the gun battle with the police was ongoing, fell into the hands of the villagers and was given juggle justice.

The suspect had confessed to being a member of the robbery gang and that revelation angered the locals who could not wait for police intervention as they hung tyre on his neck and set it on fire."
