Mob burn suspected rapist to death

The suspect, who is a member of a notorious serial rape gang that has been attacking market women, was burnt to death after confessing to being a rapist.

The suspect, who is an indigene of Oroahakpor community in Ethiope-West Local Government Area of the state, was burnt alive after being apprehended.

He had reportedly confessed to being a member of a notorious rape gang, which had been attacking market women in Ughelli.

According to Punch, the suspects pretended to be customers, in a bid to rape a particular salesgirl. She was attending to them when she was attacked.

Her cry of despair attracted the attention of other traders who immediately chased after them, but only caught one of the suspects.

An eyewitness who gave an account of the incident said, “The hoodlums pretended to be customers buying things in bulk and that was why they were allowed to enter the store.“

“The next thing we heard was the screaming of the salesgirl and we immediately rushed in only to see that that she had been attacked; she was bleeding.”

“The mob pursued the suspects, who had fled the scene. They caught up with one of them at the Omotor Junction, where he was set ablaze before the arrival of security agents.”

Now recovering at the Accident and Emergency Unit of the Ughelli Central Hospital, the salesgirl said the suspects pretended to be customers so that they can get to her.
