A 30-year-old unemployed man, Samson Oluwadare, was on Wednesday charged before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for allegedly breaking into a shop and carting away goods worth N1.2 million.

The accused, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and housebreaking.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Akpan Ikem told the court that the accused committed the offence on Feb. 11 at a shop located at Limca area of Ibereko, Badagry.

He said the stolen items belonged to the owner of the shop, Mr Dapo Bashorun.

According to Ikem, the accused broke into the shop in the midnight and took away three sets of plasma TV worth N750,000 and 90 pairs of women’s slippers worth N450,000.

The offences contravened Sections 307 and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge. Defence counsel Timothy Ukoha urged the court to grant the accused bail on liberal terms.

In his ruling, the Magistrate, Mr Jimoh Adefioye, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties, who must provide evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The case was adjourned until April 3 for further hearing.
