Raymond Green, who targeted the same couple twice, breaking into their home and threatening them, has now been locked up for seven years.

The dimwitted thief who possesses "an appalling record" made it quite easy for the police to trace and nab him after he left a business card with his name on it at the scene of one of his crimes. Green, 34, of Heol Gwyrosydd, Treboeth, Swansea, left the card which had been given to him by a probation officer - who had written Green’s name on it - at a house in Clasemont Road, Morriston, Swansea.

Prosecutor at Swansea Crown Court, Dyfed Thomas said Green, during a number of crimes in the summer, had also gone ahead to rob a couple in their 60s. Mr. Thomas said he first broke into the couple’s home at a sheltered housing complex in Penlan, Swansea at around 4am on July 3 this year.

He said the husband heard a bang in the living room and was confronted by a pitiless, menacing Green who snarled: "I'll beat you up and kill you.

"Where is the money?"

Mr. Thomas said the husband suffered severe arthritis and his wife had recently been in hospital.

The court heard Green, who entered through a window in the couple’s lounge, found a pot containing around £1,000 in coins and made off with it.

Green again entered the couple's home in August through a window, this time at around 2.30am. On this occasion, after threatening them and actually pushing the arthritic husband to the ground, Green took cigarettes, a lighter and £20 in cash from the man’s pocket before leaving.

On August 26 this year, after police made inquiries about the business card found at the house in Clasemont Rod, Morriston, on August 4, Green was arrested hiding in an alcove.

Green initially "made no meaningful replies", but later admitted to twice burgling the aged couple at the sheltered housing complex, the burglary at Clasemone Road where he left the business card and another break-in at a house in Beaconsview Road, Swansea.

In defense of his client, Andrew Evans claimed that Green was struggling with an addiction to Class A drugs, and that he often indulged in these crimes to finance the illicit substances.

Before passing the judgement that sealed Green’s fate, Judge Thomas said, "You've an appalling record of offences of dishonesty, particularly of dwelling house burglaries.

"The last time you were sentenced, in 2014 you had 14 months and, as is usual, on reaching the half way point of your sentence you were released on licence.

"As a result I am going to keep you out of the public's hair for as long as possible by jailing you for a total of seven years.”
