A 49-year-old woman, Christiana Ojukwu, has dragged her 42-year-old former boyfriend, Gerald Onuimo, to the Isolo Magistrates' Court sitting in Lagos State, for allegedly defrauding her of N450,000 and dumping her after he had promised to marry her, PM News reports.

The jilted woman told the court that Onuimo had collected the money to set up a business when they were still dating, but refused to pay her back after he broke up with her.

It was gathered that Onuimo met Ojukwu five years ago and he gave her false hope of marrying her, which prompted her to give him the money to invest in his business but when his business started doing well, he secretly went to his village and married a much younger woman without Ojukwu’s knowledge and later informed her that he had gotten married.

Angered by the betrayal, Ojukwu allegedly demanded for the money she had given him to set up his business since he had jilted her but he refused, claiming that he had offered her his services for five years and saw no need to pay her.

He reportedly told her that his services to her were worth more than the amount and that they had no agreement between them that he would refund the money.

Ojukwu reported the case to the police at Ago Palace Way Division and Onuimo was duly arrested and charged to court.

When the charges were read to him, he pleaded not guilty and the presiding Magistrate, Joy Ugbomoiko, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000, but ordered that he be remanded in prison custody pending when he will perfect his bail and adjourned the matter till December 12, for judgement.
