Another set of wonder bankers have been arrested by the EFCC for duping depositors of N242 million naira.
An Abuja High Court sitting in Wuse, Federal Capital Territory, has remanded four fraudsters in prison custody for perpetuating a large scale scam totalling N242 million in a fake investment deal, duping many Nigerians in the process.
The four accused, Emmanuel Nehemiah, Thomas Dauda Boman, Jemila Abdulrahman Garba and Francis Kato David, were dragged to the court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), alongside their companies, Geldaps Ezofom Services Limited and Geldaps Investment Nigeria Limited.
The agency said the four were arraigned on a 15-count charge bordering on conspiracy, fraud and criminal breach of trust.
According to the Head, Media and Publicity of the anti-graft agency, Wilson Uwujaren, the accused reportedly swindled 50 subscribers to the tune of N242,178,272 in a bogus investment scheme.
One of the victims who petitioned the body, said he invested N400,000 in the scheme and was promised a 50 per cent interest on any sum invested upon maturity after 60 days. Another victim alleged that she invested N800,000 which she borrowed from one of the new generation banks but neither received the interest promised nor got a refund of the principal invested.
The accused were remanded at the Kuje Prison while the case was adjourned till March 30, 2015, for trial.
