Man pours acid on estranged wife, in-laws
An Indian man has been declared wanted after he poured acid on his wife and her family because his father-in-law refused to give him money for business.
The man, Sajid, 35, has been declared wanted by the police while his brothers, Rizwan and Majid, have been arrested, the Indian Times report.
Sajid's wife, Ujma, is said to have suffered 80 per cent burns while her nephew, Samad, suffered 60 per cent burns. Both are critical and are being shifted to Safdarganj Hospital in Delhi.
The other injured are Ujama’s parents Nisar and Maskeen, as well as her sisters, Gulista, Nisha, and Tarannum, who have suffered 25-40 per cent burns and have all been admitted to a hospital.
Sajid, a resident of Kharkhada village in Meerut, had married Ujma around two years ago, but she had been staying with her parents for the last two months following fights with her husband.
The problem that led to the acid attack, according to the police, Sajid was forcing his father-in-law, Nisar to give him Rs 50,000 to start a business, but he refused. Following this Sajid started harassing Ujma, following which she returned to her parents house.
Nisar told the police that while his family was asleep on the terrace, Sajid and his two brothers scaled the boundary wall and threw acid on them.
A local resident called the police when he heard the screams of the victims and they were rushed to the hospital.
