A 43-year-old security man escaped lynching after he was caught raping an 11-year-old hawker.

But for divine intervention, a 43-year-old security guard, Elias James, would have been killed by a mob in Kayada village in Kuje Area Council of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, for allegedly raping an 11-year-old girl, reports Daily Trust.

Residents of the area were shocked when they caught the randy security guard after he had lured the girl into an uncompleted building and defiled her on Thursday, July 2.

The angry residents then descended on him, almost killing him in the process.

A resident of the community identified as Bako, said a woman who sells provisions near the building caught the man on the groundnut hawker and raised the alarm.

“The woman had gone to collect her bottles of mineral drinks from the security guard when she saw him raping the girl and ran out to raise an alarm."

According to Bako, some labourers and commercial motorcycle riders who got wind of the incident, pounced on him before he was rescued by some elders and taken to a police outpost in the village.
