An Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan, on Wednesday dissolved a four-year-old marriage between one David Adeyemi and his wife, Wuraola, over unreasonable behaviour of the wife.
Court dissolves 4-year-old marriage over wife’s unruly behaviour
The husband said that after a little misunderstanding on July 3, 2012, the wife had packed out of their matrimonial home and the two were living separately since then.
Justice Muktar Abimbola said that the marriage had broken irretrievably on the ground that the couple had lived separately for more than three years.
Abimbola said that section 16 (1) of the Matrimonial Courses Act empowered the court to dissolve a marriage without even considering any other factor if the couple had lived separately for a period of three years.
He said that the couple had been living apart since July 3, 2012, which was more than three years and thereby dissolved the marriage.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Adeyemi had earlier informed the court that he got married to Wuraola on June 7, 2012 at the Registry of Olorunda Local Government in Osogbo.
Adeyemi told the court that his wife was troublesome and prayed that the marriage be terminated.
NAN reports that the wife, Wuraola, did not appear in court to challenge the suit.
