Court extends widow’s quit notice by 2 months
The magistrate, Mr Victor Manga, extended the period, after the pleading of the defendant, who said she is a widow with two children.

“I am a widow with two children, my lord, my husband is late and his people are not assisting me in any way.
“My landlord has really tried for me, I just finished my NYSC, it is just unfortunate that I have not gotten a job yet, she cried.”
The plaintiff, Simon Usman, told the court that he felt for his tenant, adding that he was no longer interested in the N180, 000 rent arrears.

He added that all that he wanted was for her to pack to a smaller apartment, which she can afford.
“I agreed with what you said my lord, since the court has given her two months, I am comfortable with that,’’ he said
The magistrate appreciated the landlord for being so considerate and pleaded with him to exercise little patience due to her recent predicament.
He advised the tenant not to commit suicide, stressing that today will be better than tomorrow.
“Thank God you are educated, help will definitely come your way, just take life the way you see it, God will bless your landlord for his kindness,’’ Manga said.

He adjourned the case till June 19 for report.
The plaintiff had filed a suit against Eze, for arrears of one year and four months, which amounted to N180, 000.
The defendant is a yearly tenant, occupying one bedroom flat at the rate of N150, 000, while his rent expired since Dec. 31, 2015.
