Woman, accomplice arraigned for alleged sale of 4-day-old baby

The accused persons are standing trial on charges of conspiracy and unlawfully trading a baby for the purpose of buying and selling.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Kehinde Omisakin, told the court that the accused committed the offences on April 18, at about 9 a.m. at Oko-Afor in Badagry Local Government Area of the state.

Omisakin said that Onyenma had connived and conspired with Ihejirika to sell Joshua Friday, her four-day old baby, for N150,000.

She said the offences contravened Sections 276 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The magistrate, Mr A.T. Elias, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Elias ruled that one of the sureties must be a community leader while the other must be a staff of a reputable organisation.

He adjourned the case until June 3 for trial.
