Theft of N2.4m goods: suspects get bail

The accused and others now at large, committed the offences at No. 90, Adeniran Ogunsanya Street in Surulere area.

The suspects are Linda Ekpo (female), 22; Chinwe Chukwu (female), 26 and Aliu Ibrahim, (male) 28.

The Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Christopher Okoliko, said the accused and others now at large, committed the offences at No. 90, Adeniran Ogunsanya Street in Surulere area of Lagos on April 1‎8.

He alleged that the accused broke into a shop belonging to Sophia Anwuli and stole valuable items including 40 pieces of Jeans trousers valued N640,000 and 30 pieces of male T-shirts worth N260,000,.

Other stolen items the prosecutor listed were: 50 male casual T-shirts valued N400,000 and six pieces of female purses worth N480,000.

Okoliko told the court that the police apprehended the accused people while running away with the stolen property.‎

According to him, the offences contravened Sections 285(7), 308 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011.

The three accused persons, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges. ‎

In granting bail to the accused persons, Chief Magistrate A. A. Paul, directed them to provide a surety each in like sum, who must be a community leader with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The case was adjourned till May 10 for mention.
