A 21-year-old, mechanic, Wale Babatunde, appeared in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday for alleged rape of an 18-year-old girl.

Babatunde, who reside at No. 57, Ogunnusi Road, Aguda, Ogba, Lagos, was arraigned on a one-count charge of rape.

The Prosecutor, Insp. George Nwosu, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Dec. 30 at his residence.

"The accused unlawfully had carnal knowledge of the victim without her consent.

"The accused went to the shop where the victim was working as a sales girl and told her that her boss asked him to tell her to follow him with a jerry can to his house to get fuel.

"The victim followed him with a keg and on getting there, the accused bolted the door behind her and pushed her on the ground.

"The victim struggled with him but the accused overpowered her. She shouted but no one could help as all the workers had gone.

"The accused tore her pant and inserted his male organ inside her and forcefully had sex with her.

"Blood was gushing out from the girl private part and she went back to the shop crying with her clothes stain with blood.

"The victim's employer came back to meet his sales girl being sexually assaulted, he reported the case to the police and the accused was arrested,’’ he said.

Nwosu said the offence contravened Section 258 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011, which on conviction may attract life jail imprisonment.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

The Magistrate, Mr A.A Adesanya, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N300, 000 with two sureties in the like sum.

Adesanya adjourned the case till Feb. 2, for mention.
