A 27-year-old artisan, Sodiq Lawal, who allegedly stabbed a 22-year-old woman and raped her while she was unconscious, was on Tuesday charged before a Tinubu Magistrates' Court in Lagos. The accused, of 24 Oribanwo St., Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, rape and assault.

Okeke said that the accused, an artisan, assaulted and rape the complainant, Mrs Janet John. Okeke said that the accused waylaid the complainant on her way to her shop, stabbed her on the head with a bottle, which made her unconscious.
The accused, who pleaded not guilty, was granted bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum. According to the prosecutor, Insp. Ignatius Okeke, the accused committed the offences on Jan. 6 at about 06:00a.m. at Oribanwo town, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos.

He added that the accused in the process dragged the complainant into an uncompleted building and raped her. The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 135, 170 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. The Magistrate, Mr A.A. Adefulire, adjourned the case till March 2 for hearing.
