2 men get N500,000 bail over alleged gang-rape of 22-year-old girl

Both Adebayo, 25 and Rasheed, 19, are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and rape.

Two men — Yusuf Adebayo and Olarewaju Rasheed — who allegedly gang-raped a 22-year-old woman and stole her phone worth N18, 000, were on Friday in Lagos granted a bail of N500,000.

A Surulere Magistrates’ Court which gave the ruling, also granted the accused two sureties each as part of the bail condition.‎The Magistrate, Mrs Ipaye Nwachukwu, said one of the sureties must be a property owner in Lagos, while the other surety must be a community leader with an evidence of tax payment.‎She directed that the case file should be duplicated and sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.

Both Adebayo, 25 and  Rasheed, 19, are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and rape.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Anthonia Osanyade told the court that the accused with others still at large committed the offences at No. 27, Adeleye St., Sari-Iganmu, on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway on Sept. 16.

She alleged that the accused saw the woman walking alone on the street, grabbed and dragged her to a quite place before raping her.

‎“They accused took her Nokia phone and unlawfully had sexual intercourse with her.”

The offences contravened Sections 258, 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that offenders may be sentenced to life imprisonment on conviction.

The case has been adjourned to Nov. 21 for the DPP’s advice.
