The complainant said that the accused were the ones who entered her shop before the phone got missing, so she decided to confront them.
Two persons, who allegedly beat a woman and forcefully shaved her hair with a razor blade, on Monday appeared before an Apapa Senior Magistrates' Court, Lagos.
The accused: Ihuoma Ikechukwu, 27; and Angela Tony, 52, both residents of Ajegunle area of Apapa, are standing trial on a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and assault.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Friday Inedu, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Nov. 23, 2015 at No. 66, Mosafejo St., Amukoko, Lagos.
Inedu said that the accused conspired with others at large and unlawfully assaulted one Udoka Ashijuru by using a razor blade to forcefully cut her hair during a fight.
He said that the complainant had complained about her missing phone, worth N25, 000, which she kept in her shop.
"The complainant said that the accused were the ones who entered her shop before the phone got missing, so she decided to confront them.
"Ashijuru said immediately she confronted them, the accused just started assaulting her, to the extent that they used a razor blade to shave her hair," Inedu said.
According to him, the offences contravene Sections 172, 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 172 prescribes a three-year jail term for assault, while Section 409 stipulates two years imprisonment for conspiracy.
Senior Magistrate M.A. Etti granted each of the accused N50,000 bail with two sureties each in like sum.
The magistrate adjourned further hearing in the case till Feb. 19.
