Woman goes viral after knitting tank tops for chickens
A woman went viral after knitting woolly tank tops for chickens to keep them warm.
She said Chickens in farms are in particular need of extra layers because they often have few feathers, as they tend to pull them out in frustration when kept in tiny pens.
This leaves them struggling to cope with chilly winter weather.
Nicola 25, and her mother Ann, 58, have been re-homing homeless chickens for some years, but found that they would get cold when they lived outdoors.
‘I saw an article a few years ago about doing them for ex-battery hens and I decided at the time that I would like to do that,’ Nicola said of the knits.
‘I got the pattern and I got my mum to make them,’ she explains.
Nicola estimated they’ve made around 150 chicken sweaters.
