70 year old woman dead, 5 badly injured after car runs into coffee café

A 70 year old woman has died and five others are badly injured after the incident in westerham, near Sevenoaks in Kent.

Speaking with the Kent Police, they said that the incident Occurred as Audi embedded in the front of the cafe and a host of ambulances and fire engines at the scene in The Green.

Media reported that the old woman was with her family and that the driver of the Audi was 88 years-old. Sally Pendleton, an eye witness told the media that she walked past the scene minutes after the crash on her way to church with her grandmother and uncle. She also told BBC News that there were about 12 people who were outside, some injured, some were in shock and the man was still in the car.

She added that the man seemed okay at the point when the accident occurred that she didn't realise anyone had been badly injured even though the incident was a crazy thing to have happened as the pathway to the coffee shop is clear and bright.

"Our clinicians treated six patients in total, including one patient who was sadly pronounced as deceased at the scene. "Five further patients were treated at the scene and then taken to hospital. A Spokesman for South-East Coast Ambulance said.

He further said that two patients, an adult male and female, were taken by ambulance to St George's Hospital in London and both with serious injuries and also that two further patients, an adult male and female, were taken by ambulance to the Princess Royal Hospital in Farnborough again both with serious injuries. An adult female with minor injuries was also taken by ambulance to Pembury Hospital.

In conclusion, “We can confirm that a tragic accident occurred at our Westerham store this morning. Our thoughts are with the families who have been affected by this very sad and shocking event. We’re working with the emergency services to offer all possible support during the rescue efforts. We are deeply shocked by what has happened.” Costa Spokesman added.
