The accident happened after 2 vehicles collided on Coventry Road at around 11.10am.

Paramedics found a girl, believed to be just five years old, in cardiac arrest. She was being given CPR by passers-by. She was rushed to University Hospital Coventry but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

A young boy believed to be younger than two suffered a head injury and was taken to hospital.

‘The children’s mother and father were trapped in the wreckage and had to be extricated with help from the fire service,’ a West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman told ITV.

‘In the second car, the family of four had less serious injuries. An 11-year-old boy and seven-year-old-girl were checked over but appeared to be uninjured.

‘Their mother and father suffered seatbelt related injuries and all four were taken to the same hospital by land ambulance as a precautionary measure.’

West Midlands Police are appealing to two pedestrians at the scene to come forward. They also ask anyone else who witnessed the collision to get in touch.
