Monarch attacked at his palace, property worth millions of Naira destroyed
Gunmen yesterday, Saturday, 9th 2016 raided the home of King Amalate Turner at Opume in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa, damaging several household furniture and electronics.
A witness says the gunmen brutalised the deputy chairman of the community’s council of chiefs, and then forced him to accompany them to the residence of the monarch where they blew the gate open with dynamites.
The motive behind the attack remains unknown but King Turner, an associate of Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, was recently called in for questioning by state security operatives who had invaded his Abuja residence a few weeks ago over allegations of contract scam.
The gunmen, about 20 of them who dressed in military camouflage uniforms, were said to have stormed the community in two speed boats at about 12.55 a.m. on Saturday.
Though the monarch and members of his family were not around when the attack took place, the hoodlums were said to have ransacked the entire house and in the process destroyed several furniture and electronics.
Asinim Butswat, Bayelsa police spokesperson, when reached, revealed that he was yet to be briefed on the incident as he was away at Amassoma on official duty.
