Man arraigned before court for slapping girlfriend

Vanguard reports that the prosecutor, Oriyomi Akinwale, had revealed to the court that the accused had committed the offence on April 15 at about 8 p.m. at Omisanjana Street, in Ado-Ekiti.
Akinwale who is a police sergeant had reportedly revealed that the accused, address withheld, had on the said date, unlawfully slapped Igiebor for refusing to pick his calls.
The sergeant adds that the accused also beat Igiebor “mercilessly’’ after hearing that she was allegedly dating someone else within the neighborhood.
Mr Akinwale reveals that the offence, contrary to the Criminal Code, Cap C 16, Laws of Ekiti State 2012 was punishable by the law.
Oluwaseyi reportedly pleaded not guilty to the charge while his counsel, Mr Tunde Falade, appealed to the court to grant him bail on liberal terms, promising that the accused would not violate the terms of the bail.
The Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Ajibade, reportedly granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum before adjourning the case to April 28 for further hearing.
