Court orders extradition of alleged human trafficker to the UK

The extradition of a Nigerian woman, alleged to be a human trafficker, has been ordered by an Abuja court on request from the UK.

The Nigerian fugitive whose extradition has been sought after by the United Kingdom following allegations bordering on trafficking of minors.

Ms. Asemota, aged 36, is reportedly wanted by the UK government over trafficking allegations of minors to Europe through London.

The accused is alleged to have been organising a network that was built around trafficking young women, mostly teenagers, sourced from remote villages around Nigeria, into Europe via Heathrow airport.

Ms. Asemota is reported to have lured the teenagers with promises of an education or hand jobs in countries including France and Spain.

Upon their arrival in said countries, the young women are later forced into prostituition.

Following the suspects arrest, it had been discovered that Ms. Asemota had been on the wanted list of the National Crime Agency of the UK.

After mention of the case in court on Monday, January 11, Ms, Asemota's lawyer, Ugochukwu Ezekiel, appealed to the court to grant his client bail allowing her to seek medical attention following her year long custody in jail.

Justice Kafarati had granted the extradition request, ordering the accused to be extradited to the United Kingdom to face trial for the human trafficking charges leveled against her.
