Fake naval officers arrested in Rivers State

The suspects were first arrested by officers of the Nigeria Airforce, who handed them over to the authorities of the Nigeria Navy.

Senior naval officers.

Ibrahim revealed this on Wednesday, June 29, 2016, stating that the suspects presented themselves as merchant navy in a bid to defraud the public.

According to him, the impersonators were first arrested by Air Force officers, before being handed over to the naval command.

“On June 17, the Air Police of the 97 Special Operations Group, Nigerian Air Force Port Harcourt, arrested 11 civilians around  the Rukpokwu police checkpoint parading themselves as naval personnel."

“The Air Force police later handed over the suspects to us (Navy) to enable us  to ascertain if they were truly naval personnel, among other details."

“During investigation, the suspects claimed that they were  merchant navy personnel, and which further findings revealed the organisation was fictitious.”

The eleven suspects have now been handed over to the Nigeria Police in the state to face the consequence of their action.
