A 29-year-old unemployed man, Clement Okeke, charged with stealing a N670,000 tricycle, was on Tuesday in Lagos released on a N100,000 bail.

Okeke, of no fixed address, entered a `not-guilty’ plea to the charge of conspiracy and stealing.

An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, which gave the ruling, asked the accused to produce two sureties as part of the bail condition.

The Magistrate, Mr A . Adigun, said the sureties must be gainfully employed and should show evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

According to the prosecutor, Sgt. Emmaunel Ajayi, the accused committed the offences on May 18, at Ojokoro, Abule-Egba, Lagos.

He said that the accused, and one other person still at large,  stole the  tricycle valued N670,000,  property of  one Sunday Onah.

“The accused stole the complainant’s TVS King tricycle,” he said.

Ajayi said that the accused used his key to start the tricycle from the park and drove it away.

“A man at the park who saw him raised alarm, and the accused was chased and apprehended, while his accomplice escaped.

“The tricycle was recovered,” he said.

The offences contravened sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015(Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 prescribes  a three-year jail term a person convicted of stealing.

The magistrate adjourned the case until June 7 for mention.
