Man docked for defrauding, beating up woman

For defrauding and beating up a woman, a house agent has been dragged to the court in Abuja.

Justice must prevail

For exhibiting his manliness in a negative way, one Anthony Peters has been dragged to the Gudu Upper Area Court, Abuja, after he allegedly defrauded a woman and when she went to him to request for her money, he beat her up in the process.

According to the police prosecutor in the case, Sergeant Shadrack Dauda, Peters, a resident of Apo Village in the Federal Capital Territory, is standing trial on a four-count charge of criminal conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, cheating and causing hurt.

Dauda told the court that one Martha Nnoh of Centage Estate, Apo, had reported that she gave the sum of N85, 000 to the accused and another man who is now at large, to help her secure an apartment.

But instead of delivering on what the money was meant for, the accused person and his accomplice converted the said money to their personal use and did not secure the apartment for the complainant as agreed.

The prosecutor further said the accused persons beat up Nnoh when she went to ask for either the apartment or a refund of her money and inflicted injury on her head.

Dauda further opined that the offences contravened sections 97, 312, 322 and 246 of the Penal Code. The accused, however, pleaded not guilty and the judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000, and adjourned the case till June 9 for hearing.
