Tailor sentenced to 3 years in jail for raping 16-yr-old girl

An Akure Chief Magistrates court has sentenced a 26-yr-old tailor to three years in jail for rape.

 

The suspect, Seun Badmus was sentenced on Wednesday, November 2, after being found guilty of a one-count charge of rape, Punch reports.

The Chief Magistrate who presided over the case, Mrs Helen Komolafe, however, gave him an option of fine in the sum of N200, 000.

Punch reports that the police Prosecutor, Cpl. Adebayo Ayorinde told the court that the suspect had carnal knowledge of the minor without her consent.

He added that the teenager who was hawking banana was lured by the suspect into his room where he raped her.

According to Ayorinde, the suspect committed the offence on Oct. 23, at about 4:30 p.m. at Owodunni St., opposite Lao Filling Station within the Akure metropolis.

He said the offence contravened Section 358 of the Criminal Code Cap.. 37 Vol.1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
