A female police sergeant who sold a baby kept in her custody has been dismissed from the force.

The police cannot condone criminally minded officers

The image of the Nigeria Police Force was further dented a few days ago when new broke of a female sergeant, Adesuwa Obotie, who allegedly sold a baby retrieved from a mentally disturbed woman and kept in her custody.

But to show that the force would not condone such acts from its personnel, the criminally minded officer has been dismissed summarily while she would be charged to court immediately investigations are concluded.

The State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, confirmed Obotie’s dismissal at a briefing, adding that she would also be arraigned in court on Friday.

“We used our investigative acumen to recover the baby. He has been reunited with his mother. The police sergeant is now a civilian.

She will be arraigned in court on Friday. This underscores the Inspector-General of Police’s zero tolerance for indiscipline.”

The bubble burst for Obotie after a Good Samaritan brought the mother of the baby to the Akinpelu Police Division in Oshodi area of the state and being the officer on duty, she collected the baby and did not record the incident.

Few days later, the mother stormed the station demanding for her child but Obotie denied ever meeting the woman. It was only when she made so much trouble that the DPO intervened and she later confessed that she actually sold the baby to a couple in Rivers State.
