Student killed by police buried in tears
A 20-year-old student who was murdered by a trigger-happy police officer in Lagos has been laid to rest amidst tears.
Punch reports that the young student who was shot dead by one Sergeant Collins Idom on September 19, 2016, while the officers were chasing an Internet fraudster identified as Badoo, at the Ogoja Market located on the LASU-Igando Road area of the state, was buried on Monday, October 10, at the Atan Cemetery, Yaba.
Ugbeni was reportedly on a visit to his cousin, Friday Ojah in the area and they had gone to the market to buy can drinks when he was shot in the head by Sergeant Idom while pursuing the fraudster who fled on sighting the police team.
According to family sources, tears flowed freely when the hearse bearing the corpse of the late Business Administration student arrived at the Atan Cemetery around 2pm, as family and friends bid the him farewell.
Meanwhile, the bereaved father, Patrick Ugbeni, has called for a quick trial of Sergeant Idom who has been dismissed from the Force and charged to court.
“The Lagos CP gave me N500,000 for the burial of my son and for that, I am grateful. The Officer-in-Charge of SARS also gave us some money.
But we need speedy judgment. They should not cover up the case because that will only increase our hurt,” he was quoted as saying.
