Mayhem as rival cult groups lay siege to Mushin (Photos)
Residents of Idi-Oro area of Mushin have been thrown into panic as rival cult gangs cause mayhem, looting and setting shops on fire.
In a series of tweets from the official Twitter handle of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the State Police Command which was called in to restore peace to the community, the crisis broke out in the early morning of Monday, April 24, 2017, as the hoodlums took advantage of the situation to set shops on fire before looting them.
According to the RRS, the gangs had reportedly invaded Alamutu Street, from Akala Elegba and looted the shops after chasing the owners away.
After looting the shops, they set them ablaze before moving to the next shop on the street.
This is how the RRS captured the incident:
"Crisis in Idi-Oro, Mushin, as rival youths engaged themselves in a fight burning shops and looting stalls. RRS on ground to restore peace."
"Some of the burnt shops in Alamutu Street, Idi-Oro, Mushin, Lagos. RRS restores peace as passersby walk freely."
"Youth were reported to have invaded Alamutu Street, Idi-Oro, from Akala Elegba looting shops and setting them ablaze early this morning."
"RRS chased hoodlums into inner streets of Idi Oro, arrested 8 with machetes and axes. Residents confirmed those arrested are gang members."
"Some of the items (bags of Garri) allegedly looted by some youth who invaded Alamutu Street but were prevented from carting them away."
