In Lagos Four men docked for stealing 6 cars

Four men charged with being in possession of stolen high-calibre vehicles, were on Wednesday brought before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, sitting in Lagos.

They are Kelly Benjamin, 34; Uzobo Agomatiro, 36; Movie Agadumor, 34; and Babalola James, 55.

The men appeared on a 15-count charge, bordering on stealing, unlawful possession and receiving stolen items.

When the charges were read to the accused, they all pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Prosecutor, Mr. G.O. Osuyi, had told the court that the offences were committed in December 2016.

He alleged that Benjamin, Agadumor, and Agomatiro were found in possession of the high-calibre vehicles and could not give a satisfactory explanation on how they got the vehicles.

The vehicles include a Lexus Jeep valued at N3 million, a Toyota Camry with registration number JJJ 550 DY, a Mazda 6 with registration number FST 680 EC, valued at N1.5 million and a Toyota Camry with registration number LSD 663 EL.

Also found in possession of the men are a Toyota Hilux Jeep with number KRD 708 XT and a Lexus RX 330 with registration number APP 452 EA.

Osuyi also told the court that Agadumor was found with fake Nigerian Customs identity card, suspected to be stolen, while James was the receiver of the stolen items.

The offences contravened Sections 78, 287, 328,329 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The Magistrate, Mrs. O.A. Fowowe-Erusiafe, admitted the first, second and fourth accused to bail in the sum of N500, 000, while Agadumor was granted bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.

The case has been adjourned till Feb. 2 for trial.
