A suspected student cultist who murdered his girlfriend after stealing her ATM card has been arrested by the police in Delta.
Lionel Ohia, the student-cultist of the Delta State Polytechnics, Ogwashi-Uku in Aniocha South Local Government Area was nabbed at an off-campus hostel.
New Telegraph reports that Ochia, a 25-year-old Higher National Diploma (HND) student of Mathematics and Statistics, had allegedly murdered the lady identified as Juliana Onorimuakpo after stealing her Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card and withdrawing N140,000 from her bank account.
It was however gathered that Ochia, a native of Ogume in Ndokwa West Local Government Area of the state, did not commit the murder alone as he allegedly went to the deceased’s room with his course mate and friend, Chuks Agbadobi, who is now on the run.
They were alleged to have attacked their victim in her room, dispossessed her of her phones, ATM cards and other valuables, before killing her. After the gruesome murder, they locked her inside the room, and threw the keys into the bush before escaping.
Confirming the arrest of Ochia, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Andrew Aniamaka, said the suspect had already confessed to the crime, adding that he was angry that his girlfriend was telling people that he stole her ATM card and withdrew her money.
DSP Aniamaka said the suspect and his accomplice killed the victim with a machete and sticks.
“The fact of the case speaks for itself. The suspect is a native of Ogume in Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State.
The deceased had earlier accused him of stealing her ATM card and fraudulently withdrawing N140,000 from her account.
The suspect was angry that the victim continued to tell people that he stole from her account, so, he decided to eliminate her,” the PPRO disclosed.
He added that efforts have been intensified to arrest the fleeing Agbadobi just as an investigation is ongoing before the suspect would be charged to court.
