A middle aged man, Musa Adamu of Ghung village in Hawul Local Government Area of Borno State, will spend the next four years in prison after a Maiduguri High Court judge, Justice Alkali Gana Wakkil handed down the sentence on him for killing his brother during a fight, Daily Trust reports.
Man sentenced to four years for killing brother
A man who murdered his younger brother during a misunderstanding has been sentenced to jail.
The convict who was arraigned on a charge of manslaughter, a culpable homicide offence that is not punishable with death, pleaded guilty to stabbing his younger brother, Wasinda Pindar, on the chest and neck during a fight, which led to his death.
Adamu told the court that he had a misunderstanding with his brother when the deceased tried to force his way into the compound he was guarding.
His defence counsel, Barrister B. A. Modu, pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy because of the accused wife, many children and aged mother.
Justice Wakkil in his judgment, said he decided on the mild sentence because the convict was remorseful and had saved the time of the court by admitting guilt without prolonging matters.
