The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old man, Ibrahim Rasheed, who impersonated as a military officer while trying to arrest a man at a hotel in the Ikotun area of the state.

PM Express reports that Rasheed who was in a full military regalia had gone to the Aso Rock Bar & Hotel in the area to arrest a customer, Victor Essien, who went there to have some drinks.

It was gathered that the suspect had reportedly assaulted Essien and was trying to forcefully drag the victim out of the hotel when the hotel management prevented him and demanded his identity card as well as asking him why he did not come with the police if his action was genuine.

When the fake military man could not give a satisfactory answer, the hotel manager contacted the police at the Ikotun Division and he was arrested and taken to the station where it was realized he was not a real soldier.

He was said to have confessed during interrogation that he was not a military officer and only used the uniform to extort money from unsuspecting members of the society.

Rasheed also confessed that he bought the uniform and other military gadgets found on him during the arrest at a military barracks for the sole purpose of committing crimes.

He was, however, charged before a Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ejigbo on charges of assault and impersonation and when the charges were read to him, Rasheed pleaded not guilty and the presiding magistrate, Mr. Akeem Fashola, granted him bail in the sum of N50,000, with two sureties in like sum.
