Ex-Military officer stabs girlfriend to death after she threatened to dump him
An ex-Military officer in Kenya has been arrested after he stabbed his lover to death because she threatened to call off their relationship.
Nyainda, according to the report, was no longer comfortable with the 30-year-old man's short temper and told him she was going to leave him but in an unprecedented moment of rage, Okoth brought out a knife and stabbed her to death inside their rented apartment on Monday, July 25, at Kahawa Wendani Estate in Kiambu County, Kenya.
The victim, a recent Kenyatta University graduate, according to police, was stabbed several times with the knife following their heated disagreement over her stance.
A resident in the estate, Evans Silange, told police that Okoth also attempted to commit suicide after killing Nyainda by stabbing himself in the stomach with the same knife he used to stab her.
"I heard a commotion at around 3am and when I went to check, the assailant threatened me with a knife, prompting me to call the police," Silange said.
Police officers dispatched to the crime scene had to use tear gas to access the rented room, located in an apartment near Wendani’s Nakumatt Supermarket, after the killer threatened to gun down anyone attempting to get inside.

It took officers three hours to break into the room, where they arrested the man and took him to the Ruiru Police Station.
The Ruiru MP, Esther Gathogo, who visited the scene, described the killing as shocking and saddening, urging couples to opt for peaceful ways to resolve differences.
"It is saddening when a young girl’s life is snuffed out by her lover just because they differed. If people cannot live together it is better to part ways," Gathago said
