According to a statement posted on the Facebook wall of the command, the arrest of the trio of Stanley Mgbiri, Blessing Mkpowu and Micheal Hope, by operatives of its Anti-Kidnapping Unit, came after they went to a bank to withdraw a ransom paid in by relatives of a victim.

The statement reads in part:

"Acting on a tip-off, the operatives were able to arrest Stanley Mgbiri, Mkpowu Blessing and Micheal Hope.

The trio are responsible for the kidnap of a 9-year-old girl, Miracle John, at Igbo Etche. They were arrested when they threatened to kidnap one Osato Nwakaji.

They asked him to pay the sum of N3 million into a certain bank account. They threatened to kidnap him as they did to a certain staff of NNPC, from whom they collected a ransom of N12m, and yet killed."
