A driver has been arrested for allegedly stealing N1.6 million naira from his employer.

The police have nabbed a thieving driver.

A 34-year-old private driver, Innocent Togboe, has proven that he is not innocent after all as he has been arrested by the police and charged before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court, Lagos Island, Lagos State, for allegedly stealing N1.65 million and other valuables belonging to his employer, Ladi Adeogun.

It was gathered that on the day of the incident, the suspect had driven his boss to a gym at 1004, Lagos, and while Adeogun was exercising, Togboe allegedly took the money in the car and fled the scene.

Togboe who is from Cotonou in neighbouring Benin Republic, according to the police, reportedly escaped to his country after stealing the money on August 28, 2013, where he had been living large till the long arm of the law caught up with him.

On how he was arrested, the prosecutor said that the suspect who later returned to Lagos was nabbed on Friday, April 17, 2015, at Abijo in the Ibeju Lekki area of the state, while drinking in a pub.

He reportedly confessed to the police that he used part of the money to build a four self-contained apartment for himself in his country while he used the rest of the money for the release of his sister who was in police custody at the time.

When the charges were read to him, Togboe pleaded not guilty and elected summary trial and the magistrate, Mrs. F. Dalley, admitted him to bail in the sum of N50, 000 while the case was adjourned till May 7, 2015.
