Pastor, daughter arrested for stabbing nurse to death over phone battery

A pastor in Umu­choko community, Ngor Okpala local government area of Imo State and his daughter has been arrested for the brutal stabbing to death of a nurse, Calista Nzubechukwu Uzoigwe, over a cell phone battery.

The pastor who is popularly known as Esom Jehovah and the presid­ing pastor of Assemblies of God Church, Umuohiagu III, Umuan­yamele village, was reported to have engaged with the deceased in a brawl before his first daughter known as Patience, stabbed her at the back and she died on the spot.

According to reports, the 23-year-old nurse, a native of Ok­panku community in Aninri area of Enugu State, had ac­cused pastor’s daughter of steal­ing her battery and charger and in the ensuing argument that followed, she was murdered by the girl and her father.

A co-tenant to the pastor and the medi­cal doctor in charge of Graceland Hospital, Umuchoko Umuohiagu, said that the nurse died immediately she was stabbed but was rushed to Holy Rosary Hospital, Emekuku in Owerri North local government area of the state where she was confirmed dead and deposited in the hospital morgue.

According to an eyewitness, the trouble had ensued between the deceased and pastor’s family when the former confronted her assailant over a missing phone battery and charger.

The witness said that a boy in the com­pound had given the deceased a phone battery and charger to as­sist him recharge it but that Pas­tor Esom Jehovah’s first daughter allegedly stole the items which were later found in her custody five day later when the initial search for the items had ended.

The pastor, it was gathered had reacted angrily to the allega­tion against his daughter and had confronted the deceased which resulted in a brawl and the man of God mercilessly beat up de­ceased. As he did this, his daughter went and picked a kitchen knife and stuck it deep into Callista’s back while her father held the nurse down.
