Helen Paul, Omoni Oboli, Eku Edewor, Noble Igwe to commemorate Global Handwashing Day 2015

The ‘Give Life a Hand’ campaign seeks to drive home this message of Hygiene and help kids, the youth and Nigeria as a whole imbibe the hand washing culture.

Did you know that the seemingly simple act of hand washing can help prevent diarrhoea-related diseases and other disease spread by touch as well as respiratory infections including pneumonia and flu? Nearly 0.7million children die due to diarrhoea around the world every year. In Nigeria alone 96,000 deaths occur. We can help prevent this by making hand washing with soap a habit for children.

Dettol from the stables of Reckitt Benckiser commenced a campaign in 2014 called ‘Give Life a Hand’ and continues this year in commemoration of the Global Hand washing Day on October 15, 2015. The ‘Give Life a Hand’ campaign seeks to drive home this message of Hygiene and help kids, the youth and Nigeria as a whole imbibe the handwashing culture.

In order to instil this message, Celebrities including Helen Paul, Omoni Oboli, Eku Edewor and Noble Igwe joined Dettol in commissioning, an ultra-modern hand wash site was commissioned at Bola Memorial Primary School, Ikeja, Lagos which is the first of many to be commissioned. . In addition, Dettol will also provide a 1-year dispatch of Dettol soap for the pupils of the school to encourage the Hand washing culture.

In attendance were the General Manager, West Africa, RB, Mr. Rahul Murgai, Hon. Folajimi Lai Mohammed, Honourable member of the Lagos State house of assembly who commissioned the handwashing site ;the Marketing Director, West Africa, RB, Mr. Oguzhan Silivrili and Representative of the Global Hygiene Council, Dr. Nneoma Idika.

Dettol is enjoining everyone to participate in the Give Life A Hand campaign which is meant to educate kids and the general public by uploading a picture of their clean hands using the Hashtag #handfie on social media platforms.

For every #handfie shared via social media platforms, Dettol pledges to educate a child in Nigeria on healthy hand washing habits. The more #handfie shared, the more kids will be educated.
