Woman held by mob says child belongs to mentally ill daughter

Spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Dolapo Badmos, confirmed that the dead child is the grand-child of the woman.

Ayinde was apprehended in Oshodi and made to walk around with the infant strapped to her back, before being handed over to the police.

The woman, who was suspected to be a ritualist, explained to the police that she was trying to get the baby to a hospital before it died, Daily Post reports.

Her account was confirmed by the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Dolapo Badmos, who said the woman was detained following the discovery of a lifeless infant in her possession.

Badmos mentioned that the child belongs to her daughter, who is reported to be mentally unstable.

The dead baby's mother, as well as other family members gave a confirmation of Ayinde's explanation.
