Crippled man brutalized by soldiers is now a celebrity
The physically challenged man who was brutalized by men of the Nigeria Army has been lifted to a celebrity status.
The video of the dastardly act which became viral on the social media and drew condemnation from Nigerians has actually catapulted the man, Tobias Chijioke Uraku, into a celebrity as he is being feted by many, including the Governor of Ebonyi State, Dave Umahi, who invited the victim to the state house.
When Uraku who is a native of Ikwo Local Government Area in Ebonyi, visited the Governor during the state Executive Council meeting, he was treated to a dinner and at the end of the day, he was given the sum of N500,000 by Umahi who also promised to set up a business for him.
Before visiting Governor Umahi, Uraku was also invited by the military authorities where he met with top military officers who also promised to make sure the soldiers are adequately punished for what they did.
Meanwhile, Governor Umahi has called on the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai to make sure the two soldiers are sacked from the army as well as prosecuted immediately.
Umahi frowned at the demotion and 21-days detention handed down on the soldiers as not being an adequate punishment that would deter others from carrying out brutality on civilians.
