Court saves 16-year-old marriage

Following a divorce petition by a disgruntled husband, the court has been able to save a 16-year-old marriage.

Divorce

The court’s president, Mrs Omolara Abiola, reconciled the couple, who had been married for 16 years and blessed with three children, after a series of counseling.

She said that the case would, however, be on probation till June to see if the wife had truly changed from her old character.“From now on, I hope you will stop misbehaving and behave as a good and a responsible wife,” she said.

Earlier, the 60-year-old petitioner, Asimi, had told the court that he could no longer tolerate the wife’s disrespect and wanted a divorce.

“My wife is so rude; she refused to change her attitude, even when I complain.

“She has no respect for me; she does things at her own will. I cook for myself and also take care of our three children,’’ the businessman said.

Asimi said his wife attended parties without informing him; “I have also caught her in acts of infidelity.

“Mujidat does not care for me and our children. I can no longer cope with this marriage, please terminate our union,“ he said.

The respondent, Mujidat in her response, had urged the court not to dissolve the union that she was ready to change from her behaviour.
